Summer Reading

Community Solutions for Education's first project is to help our kids make the grade by supporting their summer reading assignments from the Jersey City school district. Parents, siblings, summer programs, churches, seniors, teachers, recreation leagues, social service agencies, businesses, and community people can make a difference by helping our kids engage with their summer reading. A good book gets even better when shared with someone who cares.

In June 2011, all students in the second to seventh grade will be provided a summer novel and Jersey City Kids Learn activity book. The activity book will give students daily practice in Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics. The novels will provide an opportunity for students to become engaged in reading fiction. All books must be completed and returned to school by Monday, September 12, 2011. All students in grades 2 - 7 will also receive a comprehension assessment on their assigned novel in the fall.

All students in grades 8 - 11 will be assigned projects by their current Language Arts' teacher and a summer novel. Students will be responsible to submit their completed projects to their new teacher by Monday, September 12, 2011. The project will be applied as a grade for the first marking period of the 2011-2012 school year.
